In 2005 when we celebrated our 50th year of entering Achimota School the Headmistress of the School notified the OAA 1959 Year Group that we would be hosting the 2009 Founders Day Programme. Our responsibility was to comprise planning the celebratory activities and implementing a selected physical renovation or development project.

The Year Group selected to build two Basketball Courts on the lawn in front of Kingsley House to International Standard. The project was seen as an expression of appreciation from the Year Group to the school, and the plaque on the court lists the names of the Year Group members. In commencing the project the late Akora Henry Dei became its moving force and it was unfortunate that he did not live to witness its completion and commissioning.

Principal Year Group members active in the project implementation were Akoras Henry- Dei and Dr. Kwame Addo-Kufuor acting as promoters/fund raisers, and Abe Blay Asmah as Co-ordinator for the project. Akora Engineers W K Ashiabor and Dr Isaac Allotey were designers and G K Asafu- Adjaye was the builder. Akora Dr. Seth Atsu as the then President of the Year Group exercised general supervision. The inestimable contribution of AngloGold Ashanti in building one of the two courts would not have been possible without Akora Dr Addo Kufuor's efforts in getting them to assist us.

At this time we feel it is appropriate for us to extend deep -felt thanks to the Headmistress, Akora Mrs Beatrice Adom, for the support and encouragement that enabled us to achieve our objective. We also acknowledge with thanks the many other contributors who cannot be individually identified here, especially the Year Group members.
